
Pickard Roofing Company Inc. has been building the best roofs in "The Triangle" since before it was even called "The Triangle". Started in 1928, by James E. Pickard, the tradition of excellence continues today in the hands of third generation James E. Pickard, III.

Pickard has grown from a two-man operation to a full service roofing company able to cover much of the state of North Carolina, with a crew of over 35 employees and a fleet of more than 30 vehicles.

James Pickard estimates, designs and engineers all types of low-slope and flat commercial and residential roofing systems. He puts most of his emphasis on reroofing (90%-95%) and new construction (5%-10%). He is carrying on the third generation legacy of quality, honesty, and hard work.
James Pickard has served several terms on the board of directors of the Carolinas Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (C.R.S.M.C.A.). He remains a trustee on C.R.S.M.C.A. Self Insurers Workers’ Compensation Fund.
James Pickard has appeared as an expert witness in several lawsuits concerning roof construction due to his 40 + years of roofing experience.
James Pickard started working at Pickard Roofing Co. in 1963 at the age of 16 and worked through his high school years in the summers and vacations as a sheet metal and roofing helper. He continued working at Pickard Roofing Co. during summers and school breaks while attending East Carolina University. At the age of 21, he started a full time position working on all types of low-slope and steep roofing while completing four (4) years of night school in sheet metal layout training, thus giving him a strong background in sheet metal fabrication and installation. In 1976, he took over the low-slope, flat commercial division doing estimating and design. In 1982, Mr. Pickard became co-owner and President of Pickard Roofing Co. Eighteen (18) years later, he and his brother Robert T. Pickard have built a company that is known for its quality craftsmanship and customer service and is looked upon as one of the premier roofing companies in central North Carolina.
James Pickard is married with four (4) children. He and his family reside in Hillsborough, N.C.
Shawn Murphy: Shingle & Gutter Division
Shawn Murphy began with Pickard in 1989 cleaning debris for roofing crews. Born in 1973, Shawn has moved up the ranks to head up the Shingles & Gutters Division of Pickard Roofing. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to even your most complex projects.
Shawn joined the Marines in 1993, serving two tours of duty. His service took him all over the world as an F-18 bomb loader, taking him as far as the waters of Pacific Asia on the USS Roosevelt. Pickard’s most newlywed estimator, he actually lives just across the state line in Clarksville, Virginia. When not spending time with his wife and daughters, Shawn enjoys hunting, fishing, and water skiing.
Robert Murphy : Flat Roofing Division
Robert Murphy estimates and supervises crews for the flat roofing division of Pickard Roofing Co., Inc.
Mr. Murphy came to work at Pickard Roofing Co., Inc. in 1977 from upstate New York. His background was in commercial construction with an emphasis on bricklaying.
Initially working in the sheet metal shop, he progressed to foreman of a flat roofing crew. In 1987, he became supervisor of the shingle division where he took over estimating and training of crews. After twelve years with the shingle division, he has returned to the flat roofing segment of the business.
Robert V. Murphy is married with two children. He and his wife presently reside in Clarksville, VA.
David Miller : Slate & Tile Division
David Miller's work with Pickard began as an estimator in 1996, now he heads up the Specialty Roofing Division of Pickard Roofing. This has given him access to challenging and rewarding restoration projects on some of the oldest homes and institutions in central North Carolina. He also takes on many high profile new roofing projects where quality and attention to detail are paramount.
Born in 1966 in Zweibrucken, Germany on a Canadian Airbase to an American father and Swiss mother, it was apparent at an early age that David would be involved in complicated projects. David’s family eventually settled at Seymore Johnson Airbase in Goldsboro, NC, where he attendented Junior and Senior Highschool. After serving in the US Army, David obtained his degree in accounting from Western Carolina University. Following graduation he spent several years as an amateur bike racer, and later moved into the professional ranks to race internationally both in the states as well as in South America and Europe. A love for the state in which he was raised saw his permanent settlement in North Carolina. Now married, Dave spends much of his free time building a house and farm in Franklinton.
